A 2,400 hectare refuge on the southern slopes of the Tileran Mountains, NW of the city of Esparza. The refuge is in very rugged terrain with white diatomaceous deposits, giving it its name, "White Peaks".

This area was originally protected to preserve the watershed of various rivers and thus protect the water supply for a numver of town and cities. There is little original forest there and mammals are sparse. However, the original flora and fauna in this transition area with both wet and dry climates, is returning.
