Las
Baulas has only 500 hectares of land but has 22,000
hectares of ocean area. Grande Beach is included in
the park as it is the one of the largest nesting sites
for the leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)
in the World. Its 600 hectare mangrove swamp contains
all six of the mangroves known along the
Pacific Coast.
There
are no accomodations within the park but plenty of
hotels, guesthouses and restaurants in Tamarindo,
right on the edge of the park.
