Isla
de Coco National Park is found in the Pacific Ocean,
in effect Costa Rica's only "overseas" territory.
It lies 532 Km from Cabo Blanco on the mainland, at
about 5 degrees, 32 minutes North and 87 degrees 6
minutes West.
Founded
in 1978, this national park is the World's largest
uninhabited tropical island. It has a terrestrial
area of some 2,400 hectares and a maritime area of
97,235 hectares. Its highest point, Iglesias Mountain,
reaches 634 meters and has a bit of cloud forest on
top.
The island has a very broken and spectacular topography
giving it many waterfalls, some of which make startling
leaps directly into the sea.
